Early America in Three Songs.
Virtual
Chase Castle is a Benjamin Franklin Fellow and a PhD candidate in Music at the University of Pennsylvania. He has selected three essential 19th-century American songs for us: "Rosalie the Prairie Flower," "O Susanna," and "Give Me a Home Neath the Old Oak Tree." Chase will play recordings of these iconic songs and discuss what they reveal about the hopes, aspirations, and fears of average Americans in the early years of the Republic..
