Revolutionary Peace tells the story of the diverse group of health nuts and animal advocates who made Philadelphia a long-running base for the national vegetarian movement. The veg movement in the US dates to 1817, but the book also chronicles 18th-century visionaries like Benjamin Lay, Anthony Benezet and Ben Franklin, plus later activists such as the Grimke sisters and Caroline Earle White, to show how social reform and vegetarianism developed hand in hand.
A writer, speaker, cartoonist and former Philadelphia Daily News columnist ("V for Veg"), Vance Lehmkuhl is the director of Philly's American Vegan Center in Old City, where he offers a regular walking tour every Saturday and Sunday at noon. He has long sought ways to promote Philly's amazing vegan food scene, from the "Best Vegan Cheesesteak in Philly" contest, which has run since 2014, to the Philly Vegan Awards. Revolutionary Peace is Lehmkuhl's fourth book.
