Art Book Club: Black Histories of Philadelphia
Art Department at Parkway Central Library
This month's Art Book Club will look at library materials documenting the work of local Black artists and related subjects, in conjunction with the Black Histories of Philadelphia exhibiton created by the Children's Literature Research Research Collection, Map Collection and Print and Picture Collection, now on view in the 2nd floor West Gallery. We'll look at library materials on Cavin Jones, Roland Ayers, Dox Thrash, Sarah Mapps Douglass, Frank L. Stephens, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Ron Tarver and many more.
We call this series a "club" but this recurring event is simply an opportunity for anyone to stop by and page through rare and special items from the Art Department's vault, archival collections, closed reference shelves and offsite stacks, to discover the wide range of what the library holds here for them.
