Request a Tutor With the Free Library

Do you need one-on-one help to sharpen your reading and writing skills? Then consider requesting a tutor with the Free Library of Philadelphia!

The Free Library Tutoring Program pairs adult learners with trained tutors to help strengthen their reading and writing skills. We welcome adult learners of all skill levels who are looking for help with reading and writing for high school equivalency preparation and/or English language learning.

Learners and tutors are matched based on their availability, skills, and learning needs. All match sessions happen in person at a Free Library location with a Languages and Learning Center staff member present. After the first session, the tutor and learner decide when and where to meet next.

Before being matched with a learner, tutors complete a free 10–12 hour training hosted by subject matter experts. Once matched, tutors and learners will have the support of the Free Library’s Languages and Learning Center, as well as access to our numerous resources.

If you would like to request a reading and/or writing tutor, please fill out our Intake Form.

If you are interested in becoming a Tutor, please complete the Free Library Volunteer Application and the Office of Children and Families ‘Next Level Learning’ Tutor Training Form.
