New York Times Electronic Access Workaround - UPDATED

By Sharyl O. RSS Wed, January 4, 2023
Updated - Online access to the New York Times has now been restored. Please review the steps needed to access the New York Times online with your library card.

Editor's Note: This post was originally published November 21, 2022. The workaround explained below should no longer be necessary as online access to the New York Times has been restored.

Access to both New York Times at the Library and New York Times Anywhere databases are currently unavailable. We hope to have these services restored before the end of 2022. In the meantime, we ask that our patrons use the following workaround:

Access to the text version of the New York Times is still available by accessing our General OneFile database.

  1. You can find the link on our A-Z databases page under "G". Remote users will need their FLP library card number and PIN to access General OneFile.
  2. Once in General OneFile, click on the "Go to Publication Search" button (lower right of the page)
  3. Enter "The New York Times" in the search field and select “The New York Times” from the result list to access full-text coverage from January 1, 1985 - Present.

Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Lots of clicking & either not ALL articles are included or the search function doesn't work. After being told over & over this would be resolved "in a few days," "in another week," etc., I gave up & bought a subscription.

Hi Gayle, thank you for reaching out to us. Please accept our apologies for the disruption of service and our inaccurate timelines for the resolution. We are in conversation with the NY Times about the terms of our subscription and we hope to restore service eventually. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Your comment PLEASE hurry because I'm on a temp first time deal price with NYTimes & won't be able to afford it after it's over. As a older on a fixed income I would not have a news local & east coast source if it weren't for FLP NYT & Inquirer. (-: Thanks fr all FLP does for Philly.

Tried this again today and it's not working. Some articles are available but it's definitely not the full text of the NYT. I know the folks at the FLP are working hard on this so hopefully the NYT can get it together and get it worked out soon!
