Philadelphia Announces New "Safer at Home" Restrictions and Closures to Fight Rising COVID-19 Cases

By Administrator RSS Tue, November 17, 2020

In response to rising COVID-19 cases in Philadelphia, the City and Department of Public Health have announced changes to restrictions on businesses, events, and gatherings, and other activities to help flatten the epidemic curve, prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed, and reduce the number of COVID-19 deaths.

The new "Safer at Home" restrictions are effective November 20, 2020 through January 1, 2021. An extension of these restrictions and/or the implementation of additional restrictions is possible depending on trends in the spread of coronavirus in the city.

This, unfortunately, includes the temporary closure of all Free Library neighborhood libraries to the public beginning on Friday, November 20 through Friday, November 27. During this time there will also be no materials pickup available.

While our buildings will remain closed to the public, some Free Library locations will resume offering limited services, including returns and material pickups on Monday, November 30, subject to Philadelphia Department of Public Health guidance. Please check our website and social media for service updates.

In the meantime, we will continue our robust virtual programming schedule, as well as telephone and online reference services, until we are notified that it is safe again to offer in-person services to the public.

Catalog holds will continue without interruption during this time, and due dates will be moved to early January 2021.
