Let us help you yell at a ref like a local! Learn Brazilian Portuguese online
By Jamie W. Fri, June 13, 2014Tired of yelling at your TV during the World Cup like an ugly American? Of course you are. (Do people in other countries even yell at their TVs? Somehow this feels like it might be one of those things that only we do.) So let's all agree to take some pride in ourselves, act like the sophisticated world citizens we truly are, and learn a few key phrases in Brazilian Portuguese using the Free Library's wonderful Mango Languages resource.
Let's start with the basics:
Say, Eu não posso acreditar nisso! Este juíz é muito burro!, Instead of, I can't believe it! This ref is so dumb!
Or try, Meu, não foi um impedimento!, instead of, Man! There's no way that was offsides!
Get acculturated with these and other useful phrases by visiting our Digital Learning center and logging into Mango languages with your library card number and PIN. They've got a special short course up now just for World Cup fans. That's in addition to their usual terrific selection of over 63 languages you can learn at your own pace.
Of course, we all know that there is really only one word you need to know to enjoy the games, "GOOOAL!!!!"
