Science in the Summer

The Free Library of Philadelphia is excited to once again partner with The Franklin Institute to present GSK Science in the Summer, an informal, hands-on summer science program for children entering grades 2-6!

Science in the Summer is designed to increase children's value of, interest in, and confidence about doing science and pursuing STEM careers.

Be A Health Scientist!

This year's Be a Health Scientist! theme invites children to explore the diverse roles of scientists as they investigate the universe, gather information, and use actual scientific tools, machines, and procedures to solve real-world problems.

Each activity highlights a STEM career through a story that encourages children to play the role of a person in that profession. Specifically, participants will be able to try on the lab coat and join the research teams to:

  • Be an Athletic Trainer
  • Be a Cardiologist
  • Be a Dietitian
  • Be an Epidemiologist
  • Be an Orthopedic Doctor

Science in the Summer programs will take place at select libraries throughout the city from June 9 to August 8, 2025. Dates and times for these programs will vary by location.
