Dick Thornburgh is the only Republican to have served two consecutive terms, from 1979-1987, as the governor of Pennsylvania. He has worked under five presidents in the United States Justice Department, spent three years as attorney general, and was the highest-ranking American in the United Nations in 1993. His autobiography, Where the Evidence Leads, "is vital reading for anyone who would understand Republican and national politics- past and present." (David Eisenhower)
