Condemned to death in 1989 by the former Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini for his novel The Satanic Verses, Indian-born novelist Salman Rushdie has remained a prolific author. His second novel Midnight’s Children was named the best novel to win the Booker Prize in its first twenty-five years. His latest book is a collection of essays.
