Kadir Nelson: The Picture Book Illustration Process
Kadir Nelson won the Coretta Scott King Author Award, the Sibert Medal, and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for We Are the Ship, an illustrated history of the Negro Baseball Leagues. An acclaimed artist, Nelson has illustrated a number of other award-winning children's picture books, including Ntozake Shange's Ellington Was Not a Street, Carol Boston Weatherford’s Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom, Ellen Levine's Henry’s Freedom Box, and Will Smith’s Just the Two of Us. Nelson will be providing a fascinating insider’s look at the process of illustrating children's books in this special presentation.
