Born in Havana in 1950, Carlos Eire was one of 14,000 unaccompanied children airlifted out of Cuba by Operation Pedro Pan in the early 1960s. Today, he is the Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University and author of the "beautifully fashioned" (Publishers Weekly), bestselling memoir Waiting for Snow in Havana, which won the 2003 National Book Award and was the 2007 One Book One Philadelphia selection. His new memoir, Learning to Die in Miami, continues with his struggles as an adolescent exile in a new and unfamiliar land.
