Helen Fielding's first novel Cause Celeb was based on her experience filming documentaries in Africa for Comic Relief. It led to an offer from the London Independent to do a column in the persona of a character and Bridget Jones's Diary was born. The novel went on to win the 1996 British Book Award and Fielding co-wrote the screenplays for the movie of Bridget Jones's Diary and its sequel. Olivia Joules is, well, "Joules" stands for J.O.U.L.E.S., the unit of kinetic energy, so you can just imagine.
