Nathaniel Philbrick is a leading authority on the history of Nantucket, director of the Egan Institute of Maritime Studies, and research fellow at the Nantucket Historical Association. He is the author of In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex (a bestseller and winner of the National Book Award) and Revenge of the Whale: The True Story of the Whaleship Essex, both recounting the gruesome 19th century tragedy that inspired Melville's Moby Dick. Sea of Glory circles the globe with the 1840’s U.S. Exploring Expedition, the largest discovery voyage the western world had seen.
