One of England's foremost writers, A. S. Byatt’s novel Possession won both the Booker Prize and Irish Times/Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize in 1990. A Whistling Woman is the conclusion to her fictional quartet that includes The Virgin In the Garden, Still Life, and Babel Tower. Her most recent fiction outside the tetrology is The Biographer’s Tale, a novel, and Elementals, a collection of short stories. In 1999, she was created a Dame of the British Empire.
