In 2004, environmentalists Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus set off a firestorm with their essay, “The Death of Environmentalism.” In it they argued that the old pollution and conservation paradigms have failed and that environmentalism as we know it must die so that a new paradigm can arise. Now, in Break Through, they articulate a new politics focused not on ecological limits but on human possibility.
