Bernard Henri Lévy moved to the forefront of radical French thought in the mid-1970s with his “New Philosophy, ” a unique world-view, combining pessimism and monotheism that has sparked heated debate in intellectual circles. “I am the bastard child of an unholy union between fascism and Stalinism,” Lévy proclaimed in his controversial 1979 book, Barbarism with a Human Face. The controversy continued with The Testament of God, in which he advocated an “atheistic spirituality.” In 2003, he published the international bestseller Who Killed Daniel Pearl?, a harrowing look at the life and tragic death of the Wall Street Journal reporter.
