Algerian Journalist Kamel Daoud’s debut novel, The Meursault Investigation, is a “tour-de-force reimagining” (The New Yorker) of The Stranger, told from the point of view of the brother of the nameless, voiceless Arab killed by the antihero of Camus’s classic existential novel. The book received the Goncourt prize for first novel and the prix François Mauriac. Daoud writes a popular column in Quotidien d’Oran, his country’s third largest French-language newspaper, and his articles for Le Point, Libération, Le Monde, and Courrier International have been reprinted internationally.
