Former Colorado Senator Gary Hart served in Congress from 1975 to 1987, ran for President in 1984 and 1988, and has since worked as a lawyer, professor, and political commentator. In 2014 President Obama named him as the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland. He is the author and co-author of five novels, more than a dozen non-fiction books, and numerous articles on such topics as energy policy and national security issues.
