Sally Mann | Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs
One of America’s most intriguing photographers, Sally Mann’s trademark large black-and-white images of her family and the American South are included in the permanent collections of many of the world’s most prestigious museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work has been collected into eight groundbreaking books; she was named “America’s Best Photographer” by Time magazine in 2001; and she has been the subject of two Emmy and Oscar-nominated documentaries. Praised as “visceral and visionary” and “fiercely beautiful” by Patti Smith, Hold Still uses lyrical prose and expressive photos to depict Mann’s personal history and her preoccupation with family, mortality, and rural landscapes.
