Robert Stone is celebrated for his nuanced portrayals of men disintegrating under social pressure. His seven novels include Dog Soldiers, winner of the National Book Award; Damascus Gate; and the story collection Bear and His Daughter, a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Prime Green, his memoir about Ken Kesey’s Merry Prankster crew and Haight-Ashbury San Francisco captured the “maelstrom of youthful passion, heedless idealism and dangerous excess” (New York Times). His new book Death of the Black-Haired Girl is a story of infidelity, accountability, and madness on a New England college campus.
In conversation with novelist and critic, Andrew Ervin
