The Rare Book Department stewards a world-class collection covering 6,000 years of human history, from cuneiform tablets to contemporary works. The Department offers free tours, rotating exhibitions, and a reading room available for use by scholars and the public alike.
Our 11:00am Daily Tour is our longest running program! Since our official founding in 1949, we have been offering a free daily tour of the Department every morning at 11. Meet us on the Third Floor of Parkway Central to learn more about the history of the Rare Book Department, and see some of our unique holdings up close!
The Reading Room is availble by appointment for scholars and the public. Email us at eRefRBD@freelibrary.org to make an appointment.
We also host groups and classes for tours and collection reviews. Get in touch if you are intersted in bringing a group or class to the Department.
