Notes:
Closeup image of one of the foundations of the Strawberry Mansion Bridge, which crosses the Schuylkill River in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Fairmount Park. The bridge was built in 1896-1897, designed as a steel arch truss bridge for pedestrian, carriage, and trolley traffic. Over time, motor vehicles replaced the carriages, and trolley services ended by the 1940s. This view of the bridge in 1972 zeros in on a stone foundation base, with lattice girders secured to it by amply-riveted plates. The bridge received "historic structure" status by the Philadelphia Historical Commisssion in 1978. This 1972 color photographic print was taken by Philadelphia photographer Dr. Harry Drasin in Philadelphia.
