Item Info

Item No: foc000873
Title: Robin Hood Dell, 1955-56 renovation
Media Type: Photographic Prints
Source: Print and Picture Collection
Notes:

The original Robin Hood Dell was built in 1930, as the home for the Philadelphia Orchestra's outdoor summer season.  It underwent renovations several times before being replaced in 1976 by the Mann Music Center. Jack McCarthy, consulting archivist for the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Mann Music Center, attributes 1955-1956 as the date for this image. With minimal information available about this particular renovation, at least the photograph shows that removing trees, expanding the seating areas, redesigning the stage, and adding a partial roof over the stage were part of the plan.  Photographic print, 24 x 19.5 cm, 1955-1956.
