Notes:

Image of French-born guest conductor Pierre Monteux, rehearsing with the Dell Orchestra in the summer of 1954.  The "Dell Orchestra" was an alternative name for the Philadelphia Orchestra, when performing during their summer season at the Robin Hood Dell in Fairmount Park.  This interesting photograph of the orchestra from behind shows accessories, instruments, and sheet music on the floor, and musicians in casual summer dress.  Although it appears that the orchestra was all-male, the harps on the left were almost certainly played by women.  The orchestra's summer season in Fairmount Park has been in effect since the 1930s, continuing even since the Mann Center replaced the Dell in 1976. Photographic print, 25.5 x 21 cm, 1954.
