Notes from Amanda Phillips (Associate Professor of Islamic Art and Material Culture, University of Virginia):
The image depicts an elegant lady lounging in a garden with a fountain, served by another lady and entertained by female musicians. It is the verso of Lewis O T8 depicting the Mevlevi dervishes. Both paintings are part of a series assembled in the 18th century, most likely in Ottoman Istanbul. The series must have at some point included at least 35 images but only seven are now known: three at the Berlin Museum of Islamic Art, two in the collection of Her Highness Aga Khan in Geneva, two at the Free Library of Philadelphia.
Creation Year (Single Year or Range Begin): ca. 1700
