Translation:

Consider that your noble soul is like a little clean bird that sits down on the earth where a hundred nets have been set for it, and it cannot be safe. He flies up in the air; you too must direct your heart not toward the earth but toward heaven if you want to preserve your soul. 2. Sighs of the heart when man gets up from bed. Now I got up in your name, dearest Jesus, and consider how I will sometime be resurrected from the grave when you will come in all your glory, and all holy angels with you. Let me be resurrected here to a new life so that I me be resurrected there to eternal life. Amen. Three sighs throughout the day. O God, let me always consider that we are only guests and strangers on earth and do not have a permanent place, so that we may search for a better fatherland, which is in heaven above. Amen. Make us capable and skilled, Lord, to come to all good, to do your will and make in us what pleases you, through Jesus Christ. Amen. Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The main text in German script extends across the document. Along the upper edge is undulating vines of flowers. A rosette is on the left side. The owner’s name, the place and the date are written in Fraktur along the lower edge. This is the earliest dated Vorschrift (Writing Exercise) in the collection. A hand-written note on the back of the fraktur states that Jacob Blanck took the oath at Philadelphia on September 23, 1752.
