Diesen beiden Ehgatten, als Peter \ Erb und seine eheliche Haus=Frau Susanna \ geborne Bambergerin ist eine Tochter zur Welt geboren, als \ Maria Erb ist zur Welt geboren, \ im Jahr unsers Herrn Jesu Christi 1818 den 16 ten \ Tag October. Gott gebe Gnad Kraft und Stärke, daß dise Maria \ in der Furcht zum Lob und Preis des Herrn, möge auf wachsen, und zuneh= \ men in großer Begierde der vernünftigen lautern Milch, das urspringliche \ Heil der Seelen zu suche; nach abgelegtem Glaubens Bekäntniß und \ Erkänntniß der Sünden durch wahre Reu u. Buße, vor der Christlichen \ Gemeinde, zur geistlichen Wiedergeburt der Heiligen Taufe befördert, \ und von Benjamin Eby Prediger und Diener des Worts, nach Christi \ Befehl, Matthäi, 28, v. 19. getauft und in den Gnaden=Bund Gottes \ einverleibet worden. Diese Maria ist, als ein Glied in die Gemein= \ schaft der Heiligen, durch das Bad der Wiedergeburt und Erneuer= \ ung des Heiligen Geistes, wie S. Paulus lehret Titum 3, v. 5, 6, 7. \ zur mit Schwester den 15ten Tag November 1835 auf und angenommen worden; und \ durch den wahren Glauben an unseren Erlöser Jesu Christo, des so theuer erworbe= \ nen verdienstes; der himmlischen Freuden, und der ewigen Seeligkeit Erben eingesetz= \ et. Mithin vergiß nicht, wie der Apostel Paulus Collosser 1. 12=14. die Pflicht be= \ schreibet. Saget dank dem Vater der uns tüchtig gemacht hat, zum Erbtheil der Heiligen \ im Licht, u. s. w. Diese Maria Erb ist geboren und getauft worden in Ober C= \ nada in der Provintz Gore in Halton Caunty Waterloo Taunschip.
Wann wir kaum gebohren werden: Ist vom ersten Lebenstritt, bis ins kühle Grab der Erden, \ Nur ein Kurz gemessener Schritt. Ach mit jedem Augenblick! Gehet unsre Kraft zurück, Und wir sind \ mit jedem Jahre, allzu reiff zur Todtenbahre. \ Und wer weiß in welcher Stunde, uns die letzte Stimme weckt: \ Dann Gott hat’s mit seinem Munde, keinem Menschen noch entdeckt. Wer sein Haus nun wohl bestellt, geht mit \ Freuden aus der Welt. \ Da die Sicherheit hingegen; ewigs Sterben kan erregen. Von J. H.

Translation:

To these two married people namely Peter Erb and his lawful wife Susanna, born Bambergerin, a daughter was born into the world, namely Maria Erb, was born into the world in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ 1818, on the 16th day of October. May God give grace, power and strength so that this Maria may grow up in the spirit of praise and honor of the Lord, and eagerly consume the true milk, to search for the original salvation of the souls after her profession of faith and realization of sin through sincere repentance. Before the Christian congregation she was brought to the spiritual rebirth of the holy baptism, and she was baptized by Benjamin Eby, preacher and servant of the Word, according to the command of Christ, Matthew 28:19, and she was included into God’s covenant of grace. This [blank] was, through the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul teaches, Titus 3: 5, 6, 7, admitted as a sister on the 15th day of November 1835, and through the true faith in our savior Jesus Christ is taking part in the dearly bought rewards of heavenly joys and the eternal blessedness of the earth. Do not forget the way in which the apostle Paul, Colossians 1:12-14, described the duty to give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light, etc. This Maria Erb was born and baptized in Upper Canada, in the Province Gore, in Halton County, Waterloo Township.
Scarcely born into the world, it is only a short measured pace from the first step to the cool grave in the earth. O with every moment! Our strength diminishes, and with every year we grow more ripe for the bier. And who knows in what hour the final voice will awaken us, because God has not revealed this to anybody yet. Who tends to his house will depart from the world with joy. Because surety, in contrast, can provoke eternal death. By J. H.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The main text in Fraktur extends across the document. The entire document is framed by a border of stylized leaves, flowers, and two faces. The place and date in Roman script are written within the border along the lower edge. This is an extremely rare Mennonite fraktur from Canada.
