Mein Hertz \ erhebe dich ein neues Jahr \ bricht an.
Sing Gott ein freuden Lied, dann daß ist Wohl gethan. \ danck ihm vor seiner Gnad, im alten Jahr Empfangen. \ Bitt in dem Neuen daß er Segne dein Verlangen \ Groß ist des Herrn Ruhm, Groß seine Wunderthat \ damit er dich bißher gar theur erhalten hat. \ diß meine Seel betracht, in deinem gantzen Leben. \ So wird Gott ferner noch, dir Heÿl und Seegen geben. \ In allem deinen thun, in aller deiner Sach. \ Auf Wege, Schritt und Tritt, dich krönen Tausendfach \ Nun bin ich drauf bedacht, in diesem Neuen Jahr, \ da Jetzt in unsrer Weldt, die gantze Christen Schaar \ Ein andrer Segen Wünscht, auch meine Pflicht zu thun \ Und jetzt nicht Schläfrig sein, noch müssig wolln ruhn.

Mein freund und auch Wohlgönner; \ Sein Hauß, und waß darinn, frau, kinder und Benenner \ Wünsch ich des Himmels Schutz, zum Wohlsein Gottes Schildt. \ Ihr Brodtkorb seÿ nicht leer, mit Seegen angefüllt \ Und auch dem Öhl Krug, muß es an nichts mangeln \ Vergebens auch nicht So, wie Petrus ehmahls angeln \ Nein! Gottes Güt und Gnad, Seÿ Beÿ Euch immer Neu, \ Beÿ Tag und auch beÿ Nacht Seid nur dem Herrn getreu.
Fried freud gesundheit glück auf allen euren Wegen. \ woll gott in eurem Hauß und auf euch alle Legen.
daß ihr diß Jahr also, vollenden mögt Beglückt \ Und nehmt Vorlieb mit dem, wie's Euch der Himmel Schickt. \ Zuletzt wan ihr Einmahl der Welt, müsst Abschied geben. \ Thu Gott zur Seeligkeit, Euch in dem Himmel heben. \ Hiemit Empfehl ich mich in ihre Gunst und Lieb. \ Sie bleiben meine Freundt, daß wünscht mein Hertzens Trieb.

Translation:
My heart, lift up, a new year begins.
Sing God a song of joy for this is well done. Thank him for his grace received in the old year. Plead that in the new one he may bless your desire. Great is the Lord’s fame, great are his wondrous deeds with which he has sustained you faithfully up to now. This, my soul, observe in this entire life. So God will give you still futher salvation and blessing in all your doing, in all your affairs, on your paths, step by step, crown you a thousandfold. Now I am careful in this new year, since the entire Christian host wishes another blessing, to do my duty as well and now neither be sleepy nor lazily want to rest.
My dear Jacob Grimm
My friend and also patron, his house and what is in it, wife, children and relatives, I wish the protection of Heaven, God’s shield to their well being. Their bread basket may not be empty but filled with blessings, and also the oil cruet must not be wanting in anything, and not in vain as Petrus once was fishing. No! May God’s goodness and mercy be with you always anew, at day and also at night, only be faithful to the Lord.
Peace, joy, health, fortune on all your ways God wants to put into your house and on all of you. That you may finish this year happily and prefer what heaven sends you. In the end, when you have to say goodbye from the world God in blessing will lift you up to Heaven. Herewith I commend myself to your favor and love. You remain my friend, this my heart desires.
This wishes all of them, the honorable church elder Jacob Grimm and his family to the new year 1782, their Pastor Daniel Schumacher in Weisenburg Township, m. p. p. [my own hand].
