Birth and Baptismal Certificate
To these two married people namely Heinrich Peffer and his lawful wife Julianna, a daughter of Georg Walch, a daughter was born into the world on the 23rd of August in the year of our Lord 1826.
This daughter was born in Rapho Township, in Lancaster County, in the state of Pennsylvania, in North America. She was baptized and received the name Susanna Peffer on the 14th day of June in the year of our Lord 1845, from Mister preacher Kreiter. The sponsors were many people of the United Congregation. Keep what you have, that no one may rob your crown.

Hand-lettered, printed form decorated with lithographed decoration and letterpress printed type. The main text in Fraktur within a rectangular frame is in the center of the document. In the four corners are oval frames in a floral design with references to Bible verses. Four biblical images are above, below and next to the text. The image on top depicts Jesus preaching to the people and healing the sick. On the right side is Jesus rising up to heaven. In the lower center is an image of Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan, with a dove flying above John the Baptist, and several people looking on. The image on the left shows Jesus on the cross.
Notes:
Heinrich Keyser, a schoolmaster in Lancaster County, filled out the certificate and signed his name and the date 1845 at the lower right. The printer of this form is anonymous, but it was closely copied from an Alsatian form printed c. 1838 and lithographed by Godefroy Engelmann. For examples of this form, see FLP 559 and 1204-1206.
