Diesen beyden Ehegatten, als Adam Spon und seiner ehelichen Haus= \ Frau Elisabet Sponin gebohrne Beidelerin ist ein Togter zur Welt \ gebohren, als Maria Sponin ist zur Welt gebohren im Jahr unsers HErrn JEsu 1788 \ den 10 ten Tag Januari um 7 Uhr mogens im Zeichen des \ fichs (?)

GOTT gebe Gnad, Kraft und Stärke, daß diese elisabet Sponin in der Furcht zum Lob und Preiß des HERRN möge aufwachsen und zunehmen in groser Begierde der \ vernünftigen lautern Milch, das ursprüngliche Heil der Seelen zu suchen, nach abgelegtem Glaubens=Bekäntniß und Erkäntniß der Sünde durch wahre Reu und Buße, vor der Christlichen Gemeinde, zur \ geistlichen Wiedergeburt der heiligen Taufe befördert, und von Hern Boos Prediger und Diener des Worts, nach Christi Befehl, Mathäi 28, v: 19. getauft \ und in den Gnaden=Bund Gottes einverleibet worden. Diese Margaretha Sponin ist, als ein Glied in die Gemeinschaft der Heiligen, durch das Bad der Wiedergeburt \ und Erneuerung des Heiligen Geistes, wie St. Paulus lehret, Titum 3, v. 5. 6. 7. getauft ist auf= und angenommen worden, den 24 ten Tag Hornung \ 1788 und durch den wahren Glauben an unseren Erlöser JEsu Christo, des so theuer erworbenen Verdienstes, der himmlischen Freuden, und der ewigen Seligkeit Erben eingesetzet. Mithin vergiß \ nicht wie der Apostel Paulus, Colosser 1, v. 12. 14. die Pflicht beschreibet. Saget Dank dem Vater der uns tüchtig gemacht hat, zum Erbtheil der Heiligen im Licht, u. s. w.
Die Taufzeigen waren John Spon u Seine frau maria Sponin \ Diese Maria Sponin ist gebohren und getauft in America, im Staat pensilfaia \ in Bersck Caunty in gomero Taunschip.

Wann wir kaum gebohren werden, ist vom ersten Lebenstritt bis ins kühle Grab der Erden, Nur ein kurz gemessner Schritt. \ Ach mit jedem Augenblick! Gehet unsre Kraft zurück. Und wir sind mit jedem Jahre, allzu reif \ zur Todtenbahre; Und wer weiß in welcher Stunde, uns die lezte Stimme weckt: \ Dann GOtt hat’s mit seinem Munde, keinem Menschen noch entdeckt. \ Wer sein Haus nun wohl bestellt geht mit Freuden aus der Welt. \ Da die Sicherheit hingegen; Ewigs Sterben kan erregen.

Ich bin getauft, ob ich gleich sterbe, \ Was schadet mir das kühle Grab? \ Ich weiß mein Vaterland und Erbe, \ Das ich bey GOtt im Himmel hab, \ Nach meinem Tod, ist mir \ bereit, Des Himmels \ Freud, das Feuer= \ Kleid. 
 

Translation:

To these two married people namely Adam Spon and his lawful wife Elisabet Sponin, born Beidelerin, a daughter was born into the world, namely Maria Sponin, was born into the world in the year of our Lord Jesus 1788, the 10th day of January at 7 o’clock in the morning, in the sign of Pisces (?) [sic].

May God give grace, power and strength so that this Elisabeth [sic] Sponin may grow up in the spirit of praise and honor of the LORD, and eagerly consume the true milk, to search for the original salvation of the souls after her profession of faith and realization of sin through sincere repentance. Before the Christian congregation she was brought to the spiritual rebirth of the holy baptism, and she was baptized by Mister Boos, preacher and servant of the Word, according to the command of Christ, Matthew 28:19, and she was included into God’s covenant of grace. This Margaretha Sponin was, through the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul teaches, Titus 3: 5, 6, 7, baptized [sic] was admitted and accepted on the 24th February 1788 and through the true faith in our savior Jesus Christ is taking part in the dearly bought rewards of heavenly joys and the eternal blessedness of the earth. Do not forget the way in which the apostle Paul, Colossians 1:12, 14, described the duty to give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light, etc.
The sponsors were John Spon and his wife Maria Sponin. This Maria Sponin was born and baptized in America, in the state of Pennsylvania, in Berks County, in Cumru Township.

Scarcely born into the world, it is only a short measured pace from the first step to the cool grave in the earth. O with every moment! Our strength diminishes, and with every year we grow more ripe for the bier. And who knows in what hour the final voice will awaken us, because God has not revealed this to anybody yet. Who tends to his house will depart from the world with joy. Because surety, in contrast, can provoke eternal death.

I am baptized, I stand united with my God through my baptism. I therefore always speak joyfully in hardship, sadness, fear and need. I am baptized, that’s a joy for me. The joy lasts eternally.

I am baptized, and when I die, how can the cool grave hurt me? I know my fatherland and legacy that I will have with God in Heaven. After death, Heaven’s garment of joy, the garment of celebration, is prepared for me.

Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered; printed. The main text in Fraktur and German script within a heart is in the center of the document. It is flanked by a woman in a dress on the left and a man in tailcoat on the right. In the upper corners are two birds on flowers. In the upper center are one large flower and two bunches of smaller flowers. The two verses in Fraktur within hearts are in the lower corners. Next to them are a flower and rosette. In the lower center are three flowers. The human figures, birds, and flower motifs are printed from woodcuts.  The child is variously refered to as Maria, Margareta and Elisabet, her mother's name. The child was born in the sign of Aquarius.
