Notes:
Hand-drawn; hand-colored; hand-lettered. The text in Roman script extends across the document. It is bordered on the left and top by flowering vines and two rosettes. The entire document is enclosed in a decorative border. This bookplate has been removed from the book for which it was made. The reference to “His Assistant” likely refers to a printed arithmetic book called A Schoolmaster’s Assistant, first published in 1743. It is possible that Benjamin Cassel (1795-1862) made this bookplate for himself. For more biographical information on Benjamin Cassel, see Hershey, This Teaching, p. 176.
