Notes: This miniature precedes the Suffrage for St. Raphael the Archangel. It depicts a scene from the apocryphal Book of Tobit in which Raphael accompanies Tobit's son Tobias on a journey. Under Raphael's guidance, Tobias captures a fish that provided the medicine to cure is father's blindness. In the miniature, Tobias carries the fish under his arm. The manuscript was illuminated in the workshop of the Bruges illuminator Willem Vrelant (fl. 1449-1481). Vrelant is considered one of the most influential illuminators active in Bruges during the third quarter of the fifteenth century.
