The Whitman Branch of the Free Library opened on January 24, 1977. The neighborhood of Whitman and its library branch derive their names from the nearby Walt Whitman Bridge. This ca. 1977 interior view features the periodicals and audio collections. Visible on the left-hand wall are two of the four paintings of scenes of South Philadelphia, by well-known Philadelphia watercolorist Howard N. Watson, donated in 1977.
Located on "Two Street,"—the home of the Mummers—the Whitman Branch serves the communities of Whitman and Pennsport.
