Transcription: Leo the Late Bloomer by Robert Krauss Pictures by Jose Aruego title page 1 2 copyright dedication 3 4 Leo couldn't do anything right 5 6 He couldn't read 7 8 He couldn't write He couldn't draw 9 10 He was a sloppy eater. And, he never said a word 11 12 "What's the matter with Leo?" asked Leo's father. "Nothing," said Leo's mother, "Leo is just a late bloomer." 13 "Better late than never," thought Leo's father. Every day Leo's father watched him for signs of blooming. 5 16 And every night Leo's father watched him for signs of blooming. 17 18 "Are you sure Leo's a bloomer?" asked Leo's father. "Patience" said Leo's mother, "A watched bloomer doesn't bloom." 19 20 The snows melted. Leo's father wasn't watching but Leo wasn't blooming. 21 The trees budded. Leo's father wasn't watching but Leo still wasn't blooming. 23 24 Then - one day Leo bloomed! 25 26 He could read! He could write! 27 28 He could draw! He ate neatly 29 He also spoke and it wasn't just a word it was a sentence and that sentence was... 31 "I made it!" 32 Jose Aruego's thumbnail sketches for Leo the Late Bloomer.
