Item Info
Item No: mcai260161
Additional Title: Antiphonary?
Language:
Latin
Folio Number: front
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes: Initial M with a Dominican friar, possibly St. Dominic
Notes: This cutting can be dated to ca. 1470.
Notes: This initial may begin the first response for the first nocturn of Matins for the feast of St. Dominic (Aug. 4), "Mundum vocans ad Agni nuptias ...," (Calling the world to the marriage of the Lamb) although neither the text on the reverse nor the iconography can confirm this identification. The identity of this Domincan friar is unclear as well. He does not have a halo, nor does he have any attributes that might help to identify him as the founder of the Dominican Order.
