On the left — in the water return line — is the bulb containing sensitive liquid. The expansion drum on the right is connected with the bulb by the tube. The heat vaporizes the liquid, and the vapor passes into and expands the drum, which by pushing down the arm with which it connects, opens the shutters through a system of levers.
