My Dear Bertha
I have devoted a morning's leisure to going very carefully over your story--to piecing it together--to filling up the cracks, and smoothing the joints and hinges--and to giving it an air of novelty at the end; also, a little suggestion of playfulness and happiness.  I call it (for these reasons):
  GUESS!
In its present shape, I am not afraid to venture it in All The Year Round.  You shall have it in proof, as soon as it is all printed.  You must prepare yourself for finding it greatly cut.  But I hope it may serve as a not useless pattern for you to work by, another time.
My Love to Marcus, who I hope is getting well.  Tell him the Gad's doesn't know itself without him.
