Showroom Stock-- The racing debut of Goodyear's Eagle VR50 "Gatorback" street radial tire helped produce victory for a prototype 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in the June 26 Longest Day of Nelson at NElson LEdges, Ohio. The Dick Guldstrand-prepared Z28 was driven on a shaved P245/50VR16 version of the 1984 Corvette tire by Jim Cook, Don Knowles and Bob Carradine at an average 80.3 mph. The Z28 became the first American-made car to win the world's only 24-hour endurance race for showroom stock cars on street-legal tires.
