Medieval ManuscriptsItem Info
Language: Latin
Folio Number: f. 316r
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes: Antiphon for feast dedicated to the Virgin
Notes: This image shows the beginning of a quire that was added to the codex at a later date. The texts in this section of the manuscript comprise antiphons for a weekly cycle of feasts dedicated to the Virgin, including the feasts of the Nativity of the Virgin (Monday), the Annunciation (Tuesday), the Nativity of Christ (Wednesday), the Purification (Thursday), and the Assumption (Friday).
While the appearance of the script and decoration of the rest of the manuscript identifies it as a French production, this part of the manuscript is in an Italian hand. The book was in Italy by the eighteenth century and this section may have been added when the book was rebound.
