Notes: This image shows the short exempla, or moralizing texts, that were added to the end of a copy of the Hexameron by St. Ambrose of Milan (ca. 340-397), Bishop of Milan and one of the Doctors of the Church. The texts are excerpts from a treatise by Hugh of Grenoble, the Thesaurus pauperum, and an exposition by Alan of Lisle, a twelfth-century theologian, on chapter 26 of the Gospel of Matthew.
