WHEEL GONE, MANI
LOS ANGELES, CALIF.: The "Beatnik Bandit," a fiberglass-bodied, radio-controlled custom roadster, is one of the spectacular array of automotive oddities to be displayed at the 1961 Winternational Rod and Custom Car Show February 17-19th at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, Calif. The roadster was completely hand-built and is owned by Ed Roth of Maywood, Calif. It is powered with a blown Oldsmobile engine. Note the absence of steering wheel; the lever in the center steers, brakes and accelerates. Bubble top is of plexiglass; the frame is from a 1950 Oldsmobile. Roth himself will demonstrate the roadster at the Winternationals, which will include three days of championship drag racing in addition to the car show.
