Family Class: Baking and Ancient Writing
Culinary Literacy Center at Parkway Central Library
Families will make and taste cuneiform-inspired cookies and learn more about how writing was invented.
What do ancient writing techniques, early literacy and cookies have in common? Learn how to create your own cuneiform cookies, inspired by Philadelphia’s own collections of ancient clay tablets used to write and record information. Participants will make and taste the cookies and learn more about how writing was invented. There will also be an opportunity to make your own seal similar to those found in archaeological digs; seals will be available to take home and use with additional baking recipes in your own home kitchen. This program is open to children ages 7 to 12 and their caregivers. Pre-registration is required via Eventbrite; tickets are $14 per person.
SNAP eligible participants are provided with a free ticket, with advance communication. Please call the Culinary Literacy Center at (215) 686-5323 to receive one of these reserved tickets, no questions asked. For more information, email kitchen@freelibrary.org
