How Antisemitism Made a Comeback in the 21st Century : a lecture by Jonathan S. Tobin. Presented in Partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia and Congregation Mikveh Israel
Congregation Mikveh Israel Synagogue 44 N 4th St. Philadelphia, PA 19106
Since the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel, antisemitism has surged worldwide, becoming normalized in public discourse. Journalist Jonathan S. Tobin, editor-in-chief of the Jewish News Syndicate, will explore how antisemitism differs from ordinary prejudice, why defining it has become controversial, and how ideologies like anti-racism, intersectionality, and settler-colonial theory have fueled the demonization of Israel and Zionism.
Tobin will examine the role of the internet, media, and cultural trends in stripping Judaism of its core identity, and how Marxist, Islamist, and far-right factions have united behind narratives denying Jewish history and rights.
The views expressed in the lecture are those of Mr. Tobin and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Free Library of Philadelphia.
