Fishtown Community Library

Bring learning to life through high-energy fun with the Rubberband-Powered Bottle Car Grand Prix, hosted by Stevie The Inventor & Spark The Bot! This STEM-powered event blends education, creativity, and friendly competition into one unforgettable library experience. This program is designed for kids ages 7 to 12 years old and space is limited to 20 participants. First come, first served!

🚗 Science in Motion

This hands-on activity introduces students to Newton’s Third Law of Motion — "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." As kids build and race their rubberband-powered cars, they see this principle come alive! Each launch becomes a teachable moment, helping young minds grasp fundamental physics in a tangible way.

🧠 Educational + Fun

This event isn't just a race — it's a learning opportunity disguised as play. Participants will:

  • Learn about energy, force, motion, and engineering design
  • Practice problem-solving and teamwork
  • Gain exposure to the basics of mechanical science and propulsion

🏁 Friendly Competition for All

The Grand Prix is open to individuals or teams, making it perfect for a variety of age groups and skill levels. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Participation to celebrate their effort and creativity.

But only the top racers will take home the gold:

🥇 1st Place Trophy

🥈 2nd Place Medal

🥉 3rd Place Medal

This structure fosters positive sportsmanship, encourages peer support, and makes every child feel included and proud of their accomplishment.

Stevie The Inventor is an award-winning educator and STEM advocate with extensive experience teaching innovation and creativity in libraries, schools, and community centers. His programs are proven to engage young minds and inspire students to see themselves as inventors and problem solvers.

This program will be held on the library's 3rd floor, accessible by stairs or elevator.
