Paper Marbling for Kids and Families
Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library
Marbling is the art of floating watercolors on a fluid, and transferring the design to paper. Design and create your own personalized marbled bookmark with Master Marbler Mr. Ramon! Have some hands-on fun for teens, tweens and accompanied kids under age 10.
Ramon Townssnd started his bookbinding journey in 1977, as an undergraduate at the College of William and Mary, looking for a job. He was directed to Colonial Williamsburg and lucked into a job in the book bindery. He was taken under the wing of Master and Journeymen bookbinders, studying traditional bookbinding methods for several years. After leaving the bindery, for years Ramon made handmade diaries as gifts for friends and family, and repaired their books. In 2012 Ramon and his daughter (now a librarian at the Free Library!) decided to turn his passion into a vocation. He now runs Colonial Bindery at Historic Sugartown, offering workshops and repairing historic books, and currently serves as President of The Philadelphia Center for the Book.
This program is sponsored by The Philadelphia Center for the Book.
