Spring Migration Bird Walk with Expert Birder, Holger Pflicke!
Fishtown Community Library
Please join the Free Library of Philadelphia's Fishtown Community Library and Holger Pflicke for a Spring Migration Bird Walk! This walk will begin at Penn Treaty Park, 1301 N. Beach Street - meet at the entrance near the wooden sign. We plan to stay out for 1 hour, and walk mostly on flat and well-traveled paths.
All events are open to everyone and all skill levels. We will go over binocular use, field guides, and apps if needed. Everyone is welcome to stay for as long or as short a time as they like. Restroom access is limited; there may be a port-a-potty at the park, but it is not guaranteed. Check the weather and dress for comfort. This event will happen in moderate rain or shine, and cancel for downpours and storms.
The Free Library loans out Birding Backpacks, containing binoculars, field guides and trail maps at 20 locations, citywide! A limited number of Birding Backpacks will be available at the walk.
Holger got hooked on birdwatching at age 12, thanks to his uncle, who spearheaded the reintroduction of Peregrine Falcons in his region of Germany. Since 2019, he has been leading bird walks in every corner of Philly. He enjoys exploring lesser-known Philly green spaces and sharing his experience through the joy of birding. He is the regional coordinator for the Pennsylvania Bird Atlas (2024-29) and organizes the city's breeding and mid-winter bird censuses.
