Make Mexican Cascarones with Marta Sanchez!
Fishtown Community Library
Kids and families: Artist Marta Sanchez brings the Mexican tradition of Cascarones to the community! In San Antonio, Texas, cascarones are decorative confetti filled eggs that are used during festive times and celebrations. Participants will decorate eggshells filled with confetti with paint, markers, and glitter to create their own cascarones. Bring them home and enjoy the fun tradition of cracking the eggs over others' heads, a tradition that believes that as the confetti spills out from the eggshells, the cascarones will bring good luck.
Texas native Marta Sanchez has spent over 35 years in the Philadelphia community making art and teaching studio art. She is the founder of Cascarones Por La Vida/For Life, a grassroots organization that creates community hand painted confetti filled eggs to assist families affected by HIV/AIDS. www.artedemarta.com
