Quest for Freedom at the Philadelphia History Museum
Philadelphia History Museum, 15 S. 7th St., 215-685-4830, philadelphiahistory.org
Learn the stories behind a selection of rare objects and documents that together show the variety of ways Philadelphians challenged the institution of slavery. Visitors will take a close look at rarely exhibited pieces, including an infant pinafore sold at an anti-slavery fair in the 1840s and an 1833 Anti-Slavery Declaration advocating the immediate emancipation of slaves. Visitors also will be able to read the details on a freedom document, not unlike the kind presented in Twelve Years a Slave that proved Solomon Northrup was a free man. The Saturday program will include a thematically related hands-on activity with quill pens and ink. Three dates offered:
Friday, February 12, 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 20, 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 25, 5:30 p.m.
