Bestselling Author Michael Crichton Passes Away

By Shannon G RSS Mon, November 10, 2008

A favorite among fans of science fiction, author Michael Crichton passed away on November 4 at the age of 66 after battling cancer. The author of more than a dozen bestselling books that leaned toward cautionary science tales, Crichton graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University. It was while he was studying at Harvard Medical School that he began writing novels under an alias. Bestseller Andromeda Strain, which was later turned into a major motion picture, was published while Crichton was still a student. Other well-known titles include The Great Train Robbery, Congo, Prey, State of Fear, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World. Crichton co-wrote the screenplay for Twister, and as the creator of long-running medical drama ER, he won an Emmy and a Writers Guild of America Award. Thirteen of Crichton's bestsellers were later turned into motion pictures.

This comment is unrelated to the Crichton post. Think you should do a blog entry about Mayor Nutter's plan to closes 11 branches *and* sell the buildings. Think the library closing post should also include future demonstrations dates information regarding the branches. Was at the Fishtown branch on Monday. Thought it very successful that so many people showed their support. Thanks

Jurassic Park and The Lost World are undoubtedly my two favorite work by Michael Crichton. Once I heard of his passing away, I simply could not believe it. The world has lost a great writer, but his legacy lives on. His achievement can not be matched in the thriller genre. He will be missed by all his fans.

Michael Crichton was a wonderful author. I really loved the book Andromeda Strain (actually I loved the original movie as well - fantstic film style to go with the plot). He will be sorely missed for this master sci fi novel even though ER would not be a highlight for me :) cheers,

My favorite book is the Lost World. It is much better than the movie. He is so creative, and will not be forgotten.
